In the Barrens

The road was left behind, that dangerous route
Abandoned for the safety offered by
Secluded, grassy land, and there I spy
A vantage point, from where any pursuit
Is left behind, so climbing up I scoot
Then sit and rest, enjoy the view that I
Can see for miles around; and to my side
A sight that landscape bleak cannot dilute.

For though I'm in this land and could despair,
My friends, companions, allies nowhere near,
And enemies around who hunt and snare
The deadly beasts below, and me, I fear,
Alone and stranded, anguish would ensue,
But only if I weren't alone with you.
